Abstract

In this paper a new ad-hoc on-demand distance vector (NAODV) routing protocol for mobile ad-hoc networks is presented. This takes into account local congestion of the network when choosing the route (selecting only the largest or shortest number of hops route), and a routing table only maintains one route to the destination node, and when a link fails, immediately re-initiates the route lookup process, and broadcast storms and other issues in the ad-hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol. In NAODV routing protocol, congestion is managed by controlling the average queue length, costs are reduced by lowering survival rates, and protocol performance is improved by incorporating a backup route. The Network Simulation Version 2 simulation results show that when comparing the performance of NAODV with SR-AODV, ARB-AODV and traditional AODV, NAODV significantly increases the packet delivery ratio, has a much shorter end-to-end delay, and lowers the route overhead and frequency of route discovery.
