Abstract

This paper addresses the issues of maintainability of redundant machining system having server vacation, imperfect fault detection and reboot delay. In multi-component system, if online unit fails, the available spare unit is used to replace it. In case, when the fault is not recovered successfully due to imperfect switching or lack of fault detection, the system reconfigures automatically by reboot process to clear the fault. The analytical solution of M/G/1 model for machine repair problem has been obtained using recursive approach and supplementary variable technique. For performance analysis purpose, specific distributions for repair time have been taken into account and various system indices are derived in explicit form. Sensitivity analysis is facilitated to reveal the impact of system parameters on the availability indices of K-out-of-N: G structure by taking numerical illustration.
