Long-term settlement behavior of loose-fill cellulose insulation under different types of exposure

Abstract

In a long-term settling test with loose-fill cellulose insulation under three different types of climatic and mechanical exposure (standard climate, outdoor climate and dynamic vibration) the influence of different impacts on the settlement behavior was compared. Strongest settling was observed in outdoor climate, followed by dynamic vibration at a clearly lower level while least settling occurred under constant standard climatic conditions. A correlation between the progress of settling in outdoor climate and the climate data showed a tendency to accelerated settling, especially when the material is drying.
