At EICMA, the motorcycle show in Milan (Italy), Continental presented a variety of motorcycle assistance systems which are currently under development. These include an emergency brake assist system which alerts the rider using visual, audible, or haptic warnings if there is a risk of a collision. It also provides low initial braking pressure to support the rider's active braking measures. The system is based on Continental's fifth generation of short- and long-range radar sensors which will go into volume production in 2019. They use improved object detection algorithms, which can detect smaller objects, such as an exhaust that has fallen off another vehicle, and can also calculate the height of objects. This means that the sensors are able to identify the end of a traffic jam under a bridge and road boundaries such as curbs more accurately. A further advantage, which is particularly important given the limited installation space available in motorcycles, is that the radar system has been made even more compact.
