Possession of Faculty Members and Students of Communication Skills and Their Reflection on Achievement in Saudi Universities

Abstract

This study aimed to unveil the possession of faculty members and students of communication skills and their reflection on achievement in Saudi universities. The study population comprised (420) staff members representing all departments of the preparatory year. The sample comprised (136) male and female staff members which represent (43%) of the study population. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was designed in compliance with the Likert five-point scale comprising of five-axis skills: speaking, listening, dialogue, persuasion and affecting, and negotiation. The most important findings were: Students’ overall degree of practice verbal communication skills from the perspective of staff members was high. There were no differences with statistical significance at the statistical level (a ≥ 0.05) for staff member responses attributed to social type variable, but there were differences with statistical significance in staff members' responses regarding students’ academic departments in favour of self-development with a mean of (3.94) at the function level (a ≥ 0.05).
