The final report published by the German Federal Environment Agency on the further development of Regulation (EU) No. 2016/1628 for mobile machinery and equipment points out that in Germany, those machines emit almost the same amount of exhaust particles and around 15 % of nitrogen oxide emissions per year compared to road vehicles. The reasons for this are seen in high annual operating hours and less stringent emissions legislation. Further development of the latter is recommended. It is expected that the limit values for offhighway vehicles will be tightened to a similar level as for road vehicles in the long term. Manufacturers and suppliers have recognized the need for action and are already working on new drive concepts. The aim should be to bring the different approaches together in such a way that their respective advantages can be optimally utilized for the different machine types - after all, their range, from forklifts and tractors to heavy dump trucks, is enormous - as are the requirements for their areas of application in harsh environments and under high loads. …
