Audi will roll out all its A6 Avant models with a mild hybrid system as standard. The 48-V system is built around a belt alternator starter that claims to enhance comfort while reducing fuel consumption under real driving conditions. It recovers up to 12 kW of output and feeds the electricity into a separate lithium-ion battery. With the combustion engine switched off, the A6 Avant can coast between 55 and 160 km/h, while the start-stop kicks in at 22 km/h. To start with, there will be a choice of four turbocharged engines: a 3.0-l six-cylinder gasoline engine generating power of up to 250 kW and 500 Nm torque, a 2.0-l four-cylinder diesel with 150 kW and 400 Nm and two 3.0-l six-cylinder diesels with 170 and 210 kW and 500 and 620 Nm respectively. Power transmission is optionally handled by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
