With the i20 N, Hyundai has introduced a sporty offshoot of its small car that is equipped with a newly developed engine. The 1.6-l gasoline engine with direct injection delivers a maximum output of 150 kW (5500-6000 rpm) and a maximum torque of 275 Nm (1750-4500 rpm) and is coupled with a manual six-speed transmission. It features an innovative turbocharger system, which is temperature-controlled by a charge-air cooler and a water cooling system. A 350-bar high-pressure injection system ensures fine atomization of the fuel, faster engine response and more efficient mixture preparation. The engine uses Hyundai's Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) technology, which allows the valve opening and closing time to be variably adapted to the driving situation, thus ensuring improved response behavior and a 3 % reduction in fuel consumption.
