Zusammenfassung

Im Beitrag wird beschrieben, wie soziale Medien Einfluss auf das Alltagsleben der NutzerInnen nehmen. Aufgeführt werden empirische Erkenntnisse zu Motiven der Nutzung, Nutzungsformen sowie Wirkungen der Nutzung. Dabei werden besonders Selbstoffenbarungsprozesse und Impression Management sowie Beziehungsmanagement fokussiert. Beispielhaft werden einige Erkenntnisse zu positiven Folgen der Nutzung sozialer Medien für Impression- und Beziehungsmanagement aufgeführt (Onlineunterstützung in Krisen; Aufbau von Sozialkapital), aber auch negative Folgen thematisiert (Risiken wie Cybermobbing oder sozialer Vergleich). Zusätzlich wird darauf eingegangen, inwieweit Persuasionsprozesse feststellbar sind, die sich von den Persuasionswirkungen klassischer Medien unterscheiden.
