Zusammenfassung

Während die im öffentlichen Diskurs fokussierten sozialen und ökologischen Probleme zunehmend den Ruf nach umfassenden Innovationen laut werden lassen, bleibt der Zusammenhang zwischen sozialen Innovationen und sozialem Wandel ein weitgehend unerforschtes Gebiet. Etablierten Ansätzen zur Analyse und Gestaltung von sozialen Wandlungs- und Transformationsprozessen mangelt es häufig nicht nur an analytischer Klarheit, sondern vor allem auch an einem sozialwissenschaftlich fundierten Konzept sozialer Innovation. Über eine praxisgeleitete, politikorientierte und normative Perspektive hinausgehend ist es erforderlich – so die zentrale These –, soziale Innovationen als analytische Kategorie in der Erforschung von Veränderungsprozessen zu konzipieren und sie als solche systematisch in – vor allem praxistheoretische – Erklärungsansätze für transformativen sozialen Wandel zu integrieren.

Wichtige Impulse für eine theoretische Fundierung sozialer Innovationen im Kontext gesellschaftlicher Transformationsprozesse liefert das Transit-Projekt, welches von Wissenschaftler*innen aus dem niederländischen Forschungsinstitut für Transitionen (DRIFT) initiiert wurde. Ausgangspunkt des Projekts war die Frage nach dem transformativen Potenzial von sozialer Innovation (Avelino et al., 2014; Wittmayer et al., 2019; Pel et al., 2020). Im Projektverlauf wurde eine Heuristik entwickelt, die darauf abzielt, determinierende Faktoren zu vermeiden und zu berücksichtigen, dass gesellschaftliche Transformation durch bestimmte Interaktionsmuster zwischen sozialer Innovation, Systeminnovation, Game-Changer und Narrativen des Wandels geformt und produziert wird. Hierzu tragen unterschiedliche Akteure, Initiativen und Netzwerke durch verschiedene Formen der Steuerung und des sozialen Lernens bei (Avelino et al., 2014, S. 5).
