Study of textured ZnS irradiated by femtosecond laser pulses

Abstract

A micro-nanostructured Zinc Sulphide (ZnS) surface has been obtained by the irradiation of femtosecond laser pulses on polycrystalline CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) ZnS materials. The evolution of the ZnS microstructure has been clearly observed with an increasing number of deposition pulses. The distributed state of micro-nanostructures on the ZnS surface has been directly linked to the Gaussian beam distribution of the laser energy. Moreover, a uniform textured surface with large-area nanograting patterns has been obtained by a high-speed line-scanning technique using an appropriate laser fluence. The optical properties of the surface-textured ZnS in a wide spectral region have been measured by Fourier transform infrared and ultraviolet and visible transmission spectroscopy. When compared with the ZnS base, the transmittance of the textured ZnS surface covered with nanogratings decreases at infrared wavelengths.
