For all those who look at high organizational membership costs, high course fees and high travel costs (money and time) as a path to becoming more Sustainable, I have a deal for you! The Institute for Sustainability [IfS] has three subsidiary organizations: (1) The Youth Council on Sustainable Science and Technology (YCOSST)—aims to create an understanding about sustainability issues and principals, to raise awareness of the science and technology behind sustainable choices, and to develop grass root campus efforts, (2) The Center for Sustainable Technology Practices (CSTP)—has developed a number of industry-focused publications and is indeed an industry-focused organization with projects of interest to member companies, and (3) The Sustainable Engineering Forum (SEF)—is an organization of individuals and it focuses on the dissemination of information about sustainability and technology. SEF organizes meeting programming for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) in the area of sustainability, holds “virtual” meetings for its members, and promotes the incorporation of sustainability principles into engineering practice.
