The devil is in the details, and the process of drawing up the Euro 7 legislation is a prime example of this. In addition to the stringent emissions thresholds, which are in some cases difficult to achieve, and the new tests and other criteria, experts are also discussing in which cases the limits should be applied at all. If there is more than one unfavorable or "extreme" condition - and these can be circumstances as ordinary as towing a trailer or driving at an altitude of above 700 m - the regulations may not take effect. The definition of the driving conditions that need to be considered is complex and the imminent entry into force and implementation of European law is even being called into question. Nevertheless, manufacturers and automotive industry suppliers still have to prepare and work on solutions that, wherever possible, operate reliably even in the case of the strictest foreseeable option, for example by introducing active heating measures to achieve a rapid light-off. …
