Africa is one of the fastest urbanizing regions in the world with 56% projected urban residents by 2050 (ECA 2017; UNDESA 2014; UNDESA 2019). Eastern Africa remained the world’s least urbanized sub-region, but with its projected average annual urban growth of 5.35% over the 2010–2020 decade, it is by far the world’s most rapidly urbanizing region (UN-Habitat 2014). Ethiopia and Tanzania are on strong paths of absolute urban population growth with 41.9 and 61.5 million, respectively, between 2010 and 2050 (UN-Habitat 2014). Close to half of urban dwellers reside in relatively small settlements of less than 500,000 inhabitants (UNDESA 2014). …

Secha occupies the upland part of Arba Minch. Compared to Sikella, it holds major government administrative offices

Elevated land with rugged terrain is not convenient for human settlement.

Dense forest, water bodies, and attractive environment

A river that originates from the Gamo Highlands and crosses Sikella. This river has economic, social, and environmental importance to Arba Minch
