Abstract

Among the plethora of technologies revolutionising modern life, Unmanned Aerial Systems, also known as self-piloting drones, offer scope for profound changes in a variety of applications across many sectors. Commercially available drones of various shapes and sizes serve numerable practical user needs. Drones are expected to achieve great economies and improve sustainability, but significant legislative and technical challenges face their adoption and deployment in many counties. This chapter reviews civilian drone systems, and their applications, benefits, safety, and security challenges.
