Highlights

  • The numerical simulations for the evolution of water inrush are divided into three stages: karst origin, structure instability, and inflow of water and rocks.
  • A staged review of our extensions and practical applications on discontinuous deformation analysis to the underground geohazards.
  • Systematically put forward our numerical solutions for studying the evolution of tunnel water inrush process.
  • The strengths and limitations of our methodologies in each scenario are clearly presented, providing a basis for further refinement and application.
