Abstract

This paper provides an approach by adding the wicks to enhance the yielding of a solar still. The experiment results for various months have been expressed. The impact of environmental and operating aspects on the performance of a modified multi-wick basin-type inverted absorber solar still (MMWBIASS) has been investigated. The research has been performed at Sachdeva Institute of Technology Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, India. There has been a significant rise in heat intake, yielding rate, and overall thermal efficiency. Intake by the glass surfaces, reflector, and hanging wicks have been considered for the MMWBIASS, which increased the yielding rate and heat intake to the solar still. The conclusion shows that the overall yield for black cotton wick is 6.907 kg/m2 day compared to 5.703 kg/m2 day along with jute wick at 0.01 m depth of water in MMWBIASS. In comparison, the overall thermal efficiency of MMWBIASS with jute wick and the black cotton wick is 27.68% and 34.04%, respectively, at the same basin predicament.
