Information Society Development in Regions of the Russian Federation

One of the top priority tasks for most states nowadays is the transition to digital economy. To assess the level of development in the sphere of information and communication technology (ICT), the indexes published in the annual reports of International Telecommunications Union, are used. In 2017 Russia occupied 45 position in the International Rating of ICT development, which is positions lower than in the previous year. The position of the Russian Federation (RF) in this rating is largely influenced by the level of digitalization of its regions. In general, information society development in the RF is a herculean task due to significant variations in the levels of ICT use in various regions of the country. The authors of the paper carried out analysis of information society development in the regions of the RF in the period between 2015 and 2017. The results of the analysis can be effectively used in complex estimations of information society development levels and be a useful tool in administrative decision-making in the sphere of digitalization of regional economy and economy of the Russian Federation on the whole. As a result of this policy, Russia’s international information society development ranking is supposed to improve.
