Mercedes AMG is extending its mid-size SUV line with the GLC 43 4Matic, a top-of-the range model with a six-cylinder gasoline engine. The 3.0-l V6 biturbo engine is the only six-cylinder available in the GLC. It delivers 270 kW at 5500 to 6000 rpm and torque which peaks at 520 Nm at 2000 to 4200 rpm. Both turbochargers are located close to the engine and are said to deliver a particularly spontaneous response. According to Mercedes-AMG, the maximum charge pressure is 1.1 bar. The Nano-Slide coating on the cylinder linings is particularly tough, which makes it wear-resistant. It also reduces friction, thereby contributing to higher efficiency. The same applies to the spray-guided multiple injection featuring fuel pressure of up to 200 bar. Power transmission is provided by the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission unit; adapted to the requirements in the GLC 43 4Matic. By leveraging an in-house software application, AMG developers claim to have successfully shortened shift times in the nine-speed gearbox. …
